Hi I have created multiple portals within my DNN application. The main application sits is on http://www.starzakastrology.com/dnn  and the 2nd portal is on http://www.starzakastrology.org – when I click on Login at http://www.starzakastrology.org the error below comes up, although login works ok for the .com domain:

The resource cannot be found.

Description: HTTP 404. The resource you are looking for (or one of its dependencies) could have been removed, had its name changed, or is temporarily unavailable. Please review the following URL and make sure that it is spelled correctly.

Requested URL: /sza/login.aspx

I am using Go Daddy to host this and when I erach /dnn folder for login.aspx it cannot be found. Finding this very frustrating ..All help will be much appreciated. Thanks

Try adding www.starzakastrology.org/dnn  as a portal alias on the second portal.  This should do it.  If not try www.starzakastrology.org/sza since for some reason it seems from the error to be looking there.

If this does not work, you need to be clearer about your Primary Domain (that which you ftp to...), the folder or folders containing your DNN instance(s), the folder under your Primary Domain that you have the .org site pointing at, and lastly the folder under your DNN instance that you assigned to the portal [if a child portal, or if you optionally assigned one to a parent].

GoDaddy lets you install 2 DNN instances, say one at /dnn and one at /sza; I am presuming at this point that is NOT what you did, though that is usually what I do.

I went to your site.  The error I got referred to /dnn so I am convinced the first fix will work.

Note that you cannot really navigate to www.starzakastrology.org/dnn from outside your site, but DNN needs that alias internally in order to find all the files...   This seems to be a manifestation caused by not being able to do a root install on GoDaddy...

Below is a previous post on this in another thread...  I don't think people get the subtlety, and it is surely NOT intuitive [at first...].  But it works.

I'm not a programmer, but in lay terms here's what I've come up with to describe what goes on...

Your DNN install is in a folder of your hostdomain.  Let's call it hostdomain/dnndir.  You can always get there by navigating to hostdomain/dnndir.  Hostdomain/dnndir is a 'default' alias for portal0 [I think it should never be changed...]

In your hostdomain/dnndir folder is a default.aspx file.  Whenever you 'land' there, and that file runs [no higher priority file exists], it looks at your 'ticket' and decodes the incoming target address, [say MyDomain.com] and scans all the portal alias tables looking for a match.  If it finds a match [MyDomain.com is an alias for a portal] it sends you to that portal.  It essentially reassigns all of your page.aspx  'url requests' to MyDomain.com/dnndir/Page.aspx [or should].  What I have found is that for all pages to get served to MyDomain.com requests, I must ALSOadd MyDomain.com/dnndir as a portal alias. [maybe you can look at the default.aspx and default.aspx.vb code and see what it really does...]

You are most welcome.  I have gotten such great help/support for DNN, and all still FREE, on these forums that I often visit in hopes I can return the favor.

I have a number of 'clients' who use GoDaddy and have stubbed my toe on most of the idiosyncrasies.
