Hello All,

I need to implement a forum in the next day or two for a 5.6.1 installation.

I do not mind paying for Active Forums, but I just want to check here what is the best approach.  
Will I just go to snow covered, buy active forums, download and install?
I guess there will be no problems with DNN 6 if I do that.

Any other hints or suggestions are welcome.

Why not use the current Forums module ? It is pretty descent. And then after a year or so, update to DNN 6x that will include some of the AF modules as default ....

Hello Costas, 

Nice to meet you.  I saw your post to Joe's blog, actually it is one of the reasons I am not considering DNN forums.  

However, my main reason is based on what I saw a few people saying - that the Active Forums are much better than the standard DNN forums.  But honestly, I do not know that for sure, it is just bits of info that I saw hanging around.

Have you used both?  Are active forums better?  if they are, I prefer to get the best one now.

What do you think?

Hi,

The problem i posted was an update problem and not a Forum module problem.

You can safely use the current forums module for a small-medium size load. Also an update path will be available when AF will replace the current forums.

btw, there is an excellent free forum module for DNN, "YAF for DNN".

btw, there is an excellent free forum module for DNN, "YAF for DNN".

 I can second and third that - http://yetanotherforum.net/download.aspx  it is the best forum around I've seen particularly if you're coming from a background of the very slick php based forums.  It is a .net solution by nature and ported to dnn and has more support and updates than the default forums and I felt was just as feature rich, if not more than active forums.   I confess that over time I've had issues with upgrades and active forums which I really hope are not present in the future.
