Hi,

I have a Localhost development site and a live site using DNN. On the development site, If I have an error show up I can go into the Event Viewer and look at the stack Trace and see the lines that the errors occurred on. But when an Error occurs for my Users who are currently testing the site, If I look at the Event Viewer, the Line that the error occurred on does not show up. Which can make it a little more difficult to diagnose what is going on.

Is there a setting that I need to enable on the Live site to get the line numbers to show up or is there something else I need to do?

Thanks,

Chris

You likely need generate .pdb files for your modules and place in th Bin folder also  to have line numbers show up in Event Viewer. Have a look at Joe Brinkman's blog: http://www.theaccidentalgeek.com/post...

Hi Ash,

I checked my Bin for my Dev site and for the Live one, they both have the same .pdb files in them (Neither have .pdb for the modules) Is there something else that would cause the line error to not show up?

Also in Visual Studios my Solution is set up as web site, so the process that the link you provided to create pdb files doesn't work as I cannot find a Project -> Project Properties.

@Chris: Are you expecting line numbers to show up for your exceptions coming from your custom modules or from DNN core modules. For DNN Core modules, you need symbol files to be installed. For your module, it depends if your module is compiled or dynamic. For dynamic module, you may not be able to get the line numbers. Try changing the compilation debug="false" to "true" in web.config. Note: This may cause performance issues. Have a look at this forum post for more details: http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Resources/F...

Ash,

Thanks for the response, I have been out of town, but I did change debug to true and am now getting line numbers. It will be worth the temporary performance hit to get the bugs located.
