I've searched several forums but not finding a solution, hope someone out there has the fix. Can I install DNN 5+ in a domain directory that already has another directory in it that's utilizing .NET 2?

My DNN 5 directory is using .NET 4 at both the application level and at the app pool level (integrated) but I keep getting the below error. If I move the DNN 5 directory into a domain directory that has no other apps, it runs just fine. All necessary permissions are present, have tried adjusting the applicationHost.config as many have stated to do, but nothing is working.
Error Code 0x80070021

HTTP Error 500.19 - Internal Server Error

Not exactly sure what you are trying to achieve here - but the 0x80070021 type errors usually indicate that there is a conflict in your config.
What exactly are you trying to achieve ?

I am trying to achieve a rebuild of an existing web site (using DNN 5+) but have to keep the current .NET 2 site intact until ready to go live (under the same domain name). From the research that I have done on this error it sems that the .net 2 config is somehow conflicting with the .net 4 app's config (DNN 5), and when I move the DNN 5 site out into a domain directory all by itself it works just fine.

The .net 2 site is contained in its own folder and has its own app directory.

I have had a non dnn application run happily with DNN, using the same bin folder, although the actual files were in a folder beneath, because there can only be one bin folder from my understanding with a .net site.

The fact you are running a .NET 2 site and a .NET 4 site makes me think the conflict lies there.
What about you have two separate IIS instances - eg.. dnn site pointing to www folder A with .NET 4 setup with integrated and another IIS instance with .NET 2 setup pointing to folder A and see how that goes.  I am only guessing here but I just can't see how the setup where one app requires .net 2 and the other requires .net 4 can work together as they read different folders in the C/Windows.... framework so that in itself would cause a problem.

And of course none of what I said may work but like I said -I have had dnn running with another .net app and it worked quite happily together but they were both running .NET 2 and there was not an issue there.

And after reading this again, I am not sure DNN likes being in a virtual directory instance - it prefers a domain directory.  Can your other app run in it's own virtual folder leaving dnn to run as a full domain?

Hmmm....yes, a good idea to try. Have wrapped both up into separate folders within the domain directory, and as separate app directories.

At least now I am getting a DNN error page (instead of IIS error page). But the message contained in the url string is so generic, except for the content=0, which I have no clue what that is about. Any ideas?
