This is an old issue with so many posts that hold answers that do not help this issue. The site is a functioning DNN 04.08.02 development instance with Microsoft SQL back.

I copy the database on the sql box (same sql box) and run the following query 'UPDATE PortalAlias
SET HTTPAlias = REPLACE(HTTPAlias, 'myDnnSiteOld', 'myDnnSiteNew') on the new db.

I copy the DNN site to the 'myDnnSiteNew' directory (same dev box) and create application via IIS.

I try to navigate to the root or child portals and get stuck in endless redirect.

I double check the alias and all are correct to new DNN instance

I cannot be ajax as it is same dev box
It cannot be portal alias as it is verified to functioning instance
