Having tested numerous hosting services, and being based in Europe, I am now moving all my DNN sites from USA servers to http://www.webhosting.uk.com/

This is billed as "shared cloud hosting" and using tools such as http://www.webpagetest.org/ I have convinced myself they are as fast as any, and very reasonably priced.

After extensive trial and errors moving about 10 DNN sites to their servers, I am happy that I can rely on their services.

The online chat suport is responsive.

However the plesk control panel provided is unable to manage the site adequately.

Rather than wasting time tearing your hair out, here are recommendations for necessary support intervention:

[a] my sites never start of their own accord - add an index.html and make sure you can see this, and ask support to fix the problem before you load DNN
[b] ask for modify permissions for ASP.NET to be set for the entire site
[c] ask for an integrated asp.net 4.0 application pool
[d] if you need PHP support, ask them to get it working - this usually kills the site so you will need to ask them again to get it sorted
[e] the task scheduler will only run PHP (and perhaps VBS) - see

http://chriscant.phdcc.com/2011/05/sc...

[f] you may need to ask for a 587 port to be opened on the SMTP server to be able to send email remotely
[g] upload zip files and ask support to unzip them for you on the site.

Gad - it would be nice is someone could produce an online editor that actually works properly, what?

Good luck
JC

Glad to hear you were able to find fast reliable hosting in the UK.  I also wanted to let you know that we here at PowerDNN.com also offer UK based servers.  We are also running a special for the launch of DNN 6.0 for $60.00 for the first year of hosting.  Our UK servers carry an additional $10.00/month charge due to the extra expenses for the UK.  I can also offer discounts on our other plans as well and all of our standard shared hosting plans come with a 15 day trial while the $60.00 plan has a 15 day full refund period.

As part of our service we install DNN for you so when you sign up you get a DNN 6.0 website ready for your content.  We also provide a free migration.  Our servers are also specifically optimized for DNN and we provide 24/7 support via chat, email and phone with a UK based phone number.

Check out our pricing at PowerDNN.com.

Thanks for the heads up. I've taken out the offer and been running some tests. The cost of the www.webhosting.uk.com is a bit less (WHUK: USD16 vs PDNN: USD 20), I can run up to 10 separate DNN installations ( vs PDNN: one), the disk space provided is the same while the first byte time / load time of WHUK are consistently faster - often twice as fast, even from London, as well as everywhere else in the world (new installs of DNN 6.1).

Update: Having used WHUK for over a year, I can say that when it runs, it is very good, and the chat support is responsive. However, they seem unable to retain what they refer to as 'custom permissions'. They class this as a a plesk problem, but my sites can die at any time without warning.
