Thanks for the great replies. The naming conventions threw me as the first thing I understood to be entirely different. Container, Module, Extension... etc. I knew everyone had lots of difficulty explaining the difference between uploading a module or extension when I had formal training to use DNN a few years ago.

I have been a great fan of DNN for its huge functionality, considerate user-base, and plug-and-play solutions which speed up concept to production right out of the box.

As for jailbreaking the install of DNN / Snowcovered.. yes, I knew DNN had some ownership of Snowcovered. Always been a huge fan of both, up to the preception that there was only way to do installs. I prefer manually inspecting all packages before installing. Doing a full install from a website just makes me shudder if someone were to upload a malicious module code in an otherwise innocuous new package delivered to snowcovered, but I do not know the process for putting an app on Snowcovered yet, so I am not sure how fully all controls are inspected.

It seems very modern to have a contained marketplace. But Apple isn't exactly one of those companies I believed in to do things in a general market sense. It is the equivalent of me being a huge fan of Apple ][+ days and then seeing the mac and going wtf? A locked in box you can't add cards and tinker with... then thank God the ibm-pc came out and hence here we are two decades later with Apple still doing this locked in model. Somethings change and some things stay the same.

I just don't want to think DNN will become so locked into one central marketplace that no one can do manual installs as we did before. It helps on anti-piracy to an extent but only a very limited extent. But I hope that more is done for the automated delivery mechanism, as it still stands it is very difficult trust relation to allow anything to get installed into a production environment type website without inspection. I mean, one can install locally for testing, but I already mentioned soe of those drawbacks.

I think an easy option is to allow us to have both, but that's not my decision, it's DNN / Snowcovered management's decision to make. I understand that increasing profitability is important, but so also is not losing your user-base who don't want the locked-in approach.

Oh for the manuals. Thank you guys so much! I wish I had waited and not wasted so many hours trying to figure out how to install a module and poking all over the internet using the wrong terminology to install a MODULE. ;) Now I just wonder if we will have to call them module extensions now? Lead pencil, yup remember those days, but the name sure scared a bunch of kids to not put their pencils in their mouth anymore. ;)

I do hope some of these issues are smoothed out. It looks awesome. That is why I made sure to compliment the guys working on it first before I did my little tirade because I didn't have the manual and flying blind on DNN 6 isn't exactly what anyone needs to be doing if they want to remain sane while they test it out.

Thanks for all the replies.

Mark
