upgrading a DNN install from 5.4.4 to 5.5.0 hoping to end up at DNN 6.

The upgrade from 5.4.4 to 5.5.0 produces this error:

Value cannot be null.
Parameter name: key

[ArgumentNullException: Value cannot be null. Parameter name: key] System.ThrowHelper.ThrowArgumentNullException(ExceptionArgument argument) +44 System.Collections.Generic.Dictionary`2.FindEntry(TKey key) +7531729 DotNetNuke.Entities.Portals.PortalSettings.GetPortalSettings(Int32 tabID, PortalInfo portal) +2288 DotNetNuke.Entities.Portals.PortalSettings..ctor(Int32 tabID, PortalAliasInfo objPortalAliasInfo) +113 DotNetNuke.Common.Globals.GetHostPortalSettings() +116 DotNetNuke.Common.Globals.GetPortalSettings() +82 DotNetNuke.Authentication.ActiveDirectory.HttpModules.AuthenticationModule.OnAuthenticateRequest(Object s, EventArgs e) +51 System.Web.SyncEventExecutionStep.System.Web.HttpApplication.IExecutionStep.Execute() +68 System.Web.HttpApplication.ExecuteStep(IExecutionStep step, Boolean& completedSynchronously) +75

I am logged on as HOST via an active directory domain user.

can I get by this somehow?

Thanks for any assistance.

I'm not sure if this error has anything to do with the AD provider but just to play it safe I'd do one of two things. Either remove the provider from your 5.4.4 install and reinstall it once you get to DNN 6 or just try commenting out the " section of your web.config.

Thanks I think that helped; I was able to complete the upgrade to DNN 5.5.0 ok after commenting out the "add name=authentication ..." for ActiveDirectory.HTTPModules in web.config.

However, now at DNN 5.5.0 after I take the comment off and try to log in via AD I get this: "Windows Authentication Disabled. See your administrator."

Looking at the portalsettings all looks enabled for AD authentication.

I've caused an app reload via saving the web.config.

I also can't log in with a standard DNN account; it says the user doesn't exist but it does.

Something must be a bit screwy but the upgrade looked good ...

Check the permissions on WindowsSignin.aspx in IIS itself.
