Hello,

I need to back up my business website. It is on a private server of a former employee and I will be moving it to a new host, so I essentially need a complete copy.  Can I log into the website and back it up from there, or do I need access to the former employee's server? At this point, I only have the login to make changes to the website.

Thanks for any help!

you need access to the server as you need to back up both the filesystem and the database.

Buy the new Professional DNN7: Open Source .NET CMS Platform book Amazon US

If  this is all the access you can get, you can use DNNBackup [http://www.evotiva.com/Products/DNNBa...] to get a backup and restore the site somewhere else.

Thank you for the information. We were able to contact the host, but I am confused by his reply. I thought I could just save the database and directory from his server and then I would have our complete website, but this is what he had to say:

As far as the content in the web site. It doesn't exist as static html pages on the web server. The content for each page is stored inside a database. Cutting and pasting the content is about the only way to get it off without doing any custom programming. You can also download any attached files you want to keep. Let me know when you have the content off and a date when your new site will be operational.

So how can I save a complete backup of my site? I can't imagine I cannot somehow access the pages without copying and pasting each one?

Thanks for your replies and suggestions.

Michelle
