Hello

Please ignore the above RFI above - although this post is a useful informational thread re DNN forum instability and Active Module option.

Given the urgency my situation I purchased Active Forums 4.3 Enterprise edition  & so far so good. It looks a good product. Which goes without saying given DNN acquired the module.

If DNN has purchased that product might I suggest that we promote it a bit better - for example the comments on snowcovered and rating are hardly an endorsement to buy it (will try & add one based on my user experience).

It would seem that we all have a vested interest in making Active Forums 4.3 one of the leading Forum managers in the business. Anyway just a passing thought.

Similarly if we are going to go down the road of DNN making strategic acquisitions of modules/products might I suggest that we make it very clear with a dedicated page what are the commercial products that we are seeking to promote. Associated with that page ought to be the rationale why DNN is taking this approach i.e. to ensure that we keep our relevance and position in the marketplace. i.e. in this case Active Modules was purchased as I understand as it had a better social interaction ability which is where the wider market place and demand was given influences like FB.

Sorry for grassing off if this is already covered etc but I just happened to stumble upon this whole matter from reading a recently submited post and seeing Chris' response re Active Forum 4.3.

Hope these thoughts might prove useful.

Thanks for your help.

Thread closed as far as I am concerned.

The situation with active forums and active social is currently one that is confusing to a lot of people.

DNN now owns all the active modules - and has posted in a number of threads regarding some of their plans for integrating these modules into the core.

Both active forums and elements of active social are to be integrated into the core over the next 6 months - including tools to migrate current live DNN forum modules to active forum modules  - as such - on what most people currently understand active forums will eventually become the CORE dnn forum and fully open sources.

What does however seem very odd currently is that DNN is kind of trying it on both ways at the moment - since in effect the active forums enterprise licence you purchased today -  effectively becomes a confusing PAID for STILL product once Active Forums is released into the DNN core as open source.

Since - once you have the open source code - the things that limit the active forums Lite Express and Standard licences right now - number of forums, number of portals - are all there in the source code . . . where the GREY area is of course - is the Enterprise version - which offers some advanced features such as the mail connector  - that is has been reported in a few places WONT be included in the open source version as its technically a separate module.

So in the long run - there will most likely be DNN ACTIVE FORUMS - open source - which will be part of the core - AND then still maybe a DNN ACTIVE FORUMS - enterprise version - which includes the mail connector

I guess the same question also goes for active social - its not clear to most of us what parts are going to be merged into the core - but the indications were that most elements would be - and again at which time all those elements would become OPEN source.  So any licence limitations again go away in terms of number of platforms etc.

The other parts of the active portfolio of products - active purchase for example - are being including into the Professional and Enterprise versions of DNN.
