I just upgraded to 6.1.1 and the ribbon bar still doesn't work with any skin or any browser. The icon bar works. However, the upgrade auto switches you to ribbon - and as you have no host or admin, it is really difficult to switch to iconbar.

Is there a way to manually install this ribbon bar menu?

The component should be contained in DotNetNuke upgrade package and you just need to enable it - if you don't have access via UI you may set the proper value in the database (table hostSettings) or use a 3rrd party component like free Advanced Control Panel from www.oliverhine.com

I hesitate to chip in here as I'm not sure if I'm barking up the wrong tree.

Firstly, there were other posts about this same issue, so you might want to do a search first.

Secondly, and this is where my memory isn't too sure if this is related to this particular problem, did you unblock (ie right click> Properties > Unblock) the zipped DNN upgrade file before extracting? And use something like WinZip rather than the Windows extractor?

If not, you might want to consider restoring your site to 5.6.3, unblocking and extracting the 6.0.2 upgrade zip file and trying again (you can go from 5.6.3 to 6.0.2 and then to 6.1.1). I won't guarantee that's the solution though, it's just a little niggle at the back of my mind.

Others might want to chip in here.

Pingle, if the database has properly been upgrades (i.e. upgrade scripts has run without errors, see log files inside /providers/dataproviders/sqldataprovider folder), you should just need to unzip package again, no need to restore dnn 5 files.

No sense in rolling back to 5.6.3, as per my previous posts ... it didn't work there either.
