I've used the azure accelerator to establish a running DNN environment, and had a test site up and running with the default install zip that came with the accelerator.... Now I need to make some additions to the site that I've developed and tested from a source installation on my local machine... I zipped up the website folder, renamed the zip to match the name of the default install zip and uploaded it to the azure blob, rebooted the instance and all I can get is "This site is currently Unavailable.... please check back later".. I use the same DB for testing and production so there shouldn't be an issue there.

Any ideas why this might be happening ??

Progress update -- decided to wipe and start clean -- zipped up the website folder from the source distro, uploaded it, and still the same message

So we can change the question a little -- how can I newer version of DNN on an existing azure instance created using the accelerator ?

@John - Your entire website exists as files on a virtual hard drive (.vhd file) that is stored as a Blob in Windows Azure Storage.  You can download this file, mount it as a local drive, and then re-upload it to Azure Storage. You will need to stop your SMB role to upload the new version (depending on which version of the accelerator you are using, it might mean stopping the SMB worker role or stopping your main web role).  The .vhd is attached to this role and you won't be able to modify it while the drive has an active lease.

Make sure that when you re-upload the new .vhd, that you upload it as a page blob.  Different Azure tools will let you control whether the file is uploaded as a page blob or block blob.  Make sure the tool you are using allows you to specify that you want to upload as a page blob.

Thomas Conte has a good blog on using Windows Azure Drives.

File management is certainly a feature that would be a useful addition to the azure accelerator and we can look at doing that in a future release.

No joy in mudville tonight -- updated the vhd and now its 403 permission errors

I dont have any need to preserve any of the files on the server, and it would be a LOT easier if there were a way to handle the update via the zip file.... uploading 32 megs is certainly a lot faster than downloading and uploading 256 megs.

Is there a solution that would let me avoid moving the VHD around given that I'm never going to upload anything to the site except by doing it on my local system, making a new zip and uploading that ??

There is nothing today that will handle what you want.  It is possible, but it just hasn't been added as a feature to the project yet.  I'll talk to David and see if we can add it to the next release.
