Hi everyone!

Is it possible to integrate oracle applets in DotNetNuke? Because we have in our company a number of oracle applets integrated in our website and  we are planning to migrate our website in DNN. If possible, how?

Thanks!

Oracle applets are written in Java - which is handled in dnn like it is handled in any other site - that is by injecting them into a html page using the <object / <embed  tags.

So at least in theory - they should still work if hosted inside a dnn site.   Having said this, it depends on the nature of the applets and if you have any special requirements - wanting to integrate them WITH dnn  for example by taking advantage of access to the dnn core - things like user information etc.

THere are a couple gotchas that I do know people have encountered before - firstly - signed applets need to be hosted near the root level of a site - seem to recall they Must be stored in a sub folder off the root of the site - and not in any lower folder levels.  This means for example that the applets cant be stored in the portal root since it is located at /portal/0/ which would make the files 2 lvls down.

And as such - if you are injecting them into the site inside a HTML module - you need to make sure you specify and absolute url in the codebase= tag for each applet <object / <embed tag - to tell the object where to find the applet - otherwise the <object tag will be looking in the wrong places and fail to load and display your applet.

Westa
