I have a question with regard to the upgrade process. I am currently running dnn 5.6.0 on Windows Server 2008 IIS7 and .net 3.0. I use data springs login and registration modules. I run the website on one  cloud server with the database on another cloud server.

I attempted to upgrade to 6.1 twice:

First time, I copied the upgrade package over existing install. I used autoupgrade. The first screen appeared and I got an error on the sql provider.

I restored and this time did not do autoupgrade, copied everything over,  then initiated the install, blank screen nothing returned. After a short time I navigated to my site which came up but I could not log in. There were aspects of dnn6.

I have upgraded sites many time the same way with no problems. Did I miss a step. Could not find anything in the docs.

Thanks for the help. 6.1 looks great!

The first thing I would recommend is that you check with datasprints to see if they have any updated releases to address 6.0 issues (some module vendors do direct sql access to deliver functionality not in the core, but as this is not using dotnetnuke's public API these can break - this typically happens at a major release). Apart from that you'll need to get the sql error and post it so we can help - the wiki has a page discussing how at http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Resources/Wiki/Page/Diagnosing-database-errors.aspx

Thanks for the reply Cathal. I will be taking another stab at the upgrade this weekend. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing any steps with regard to the 6.1 upgrade.

I normally back up, copy over the existing install and then do the upgrade and never had a problem so I wondered if there was something new with 6.0 that I didnt catch in the docs

If I have a problem hopefully I can get some log entries for you..

I was successful in upgrading my site. overall 6.1 is great although I am having a couple of issues

1. When I am logged in as admin, I cannot update admin settings (I can as Host). When I hit save the page hangs. there is this js error on the page and the error in the log below

Webpage error details

User Agent: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 8.0; Windows NT 5.1; Trident/4.0; ubt; ub2; .NET CLR 2.0.50727; .NET CLR 1.1.4322; MS-RTC LM 8; .NET CLR 3.0.04506.30; .NET CLR 3.0.4506.2152; .NET CLR 3.5.30729)

2. There is a delay on every update. When I edit html and hit save the old page comes up then in 2-3 seconds the new one comes up after a refresh. What would cause this?

Thanks Carl

Log error on admin site settings save. Can update as host

the 1st issue can occur if 2 copies of the same script are on the same page e.g. perhaps the admin skin directly references jquery via a script tag, rather than using the API jquery registration methods - id recommend checking the rendered output (via view source first, and then via a http proxy such as fiddler just in case a reference is dynamically generated). As for the 2nd issue please try loading the symbol file so a line number can be captured to give us an idea what the issue might be (http://dotnetnuke.codeplex.com/releases/view/71896)
