Hi guys,

We have just started producing skins in div rather than tables but are hitting a few brick walls.
can not seem to get the alignment right and panes keep overlapping each other especially in edit mode.

also how do we make it so the skin can expand as needed. When we use to make things in tables we could make the site expand as needed by the content but with divs even in the dark knight skin if the text is longer than the area it overlaps.

Also when we do this skin in dnn 6 and upgrade it to dnn 6.0.1 there are less issues than when we do a fresh install of dnn 6.0.1 and just put the same skin on.
With a fresh install of dnn 6.0.1 the manage buttons are at the top of the page and all the panes overlap each other. Any help greatly appreciated. You can see the skin in action on my test site.

Thanks
Paul

What you are trying to create is called CSS-based layout approach.
It is a different discipline in web design and not as easy as converting tables into divs.

I would strongly encourage you to do som reading on CSS-based layout approaches and get a solid understanding of it before getting into DNN skinning.

Here's an interesting resource:

Also it's very important to understand the box model for CSS-based layout approach.

What I do to make my divs shrink and expand as tables is to utilize jQuery inside the skin.

It took my some time to learn how to skin in Divs, but it reall shrinks the skin files a lot and is easier to maintain compare to table apprach; however, you need to have some practice because Divs behave differently from tables.

Hi

I am UK based and have done a lot of work on trying to make HTML5 and CCS3 work in DNN with some good and bad results.

Not sure what you are trying to achieve but it sounds like you need to convert from a fixed width page to a liquid one.

Feel free to give me a shout
