Hi Everyone,

The reason for my latest thread is I am having issues with creating div based skins.
If I create the layout as a html file it looks fine but after I add all the DNN backend objects like logo and stuff. several strange things happen.

First. the manage button is at the top of the page.
second rather than the contentpanes expanding to fit the content like my old table skins it ends up overlapping. even when the content is not that wide or long. Visible in both edit and layout but under view it looks fine.

But if my users can not edit it correctly they will struggle.

Also we get different results depending on the DNN version.
Tried in:
Version 5.9.3 upgraded to Version 6
Version 6
Version 6 upgraded to 6.0.1
and version 6.0.1 Fresh install.
Version 6.0.1 Fresh installs are giving us the most issues but all have issues in one way or another.
Also we are using the DNN 360 Mega menu.

Any help greatly appreciated you can see the skin at www.websitesin.co.uk/home.aspx
Also you can download the skins from www.websitesin.co.uk/DivSkins.zip (The one with the hands is not for use by any other person.(For a client)) The other not to bothered about as when we figure this out we will release some free skins.

Thanks for anyones help on this. Also we have set the default doc-type to transitional but we have tried them all to see if it effects it.

Thanks
Paul

The minimal extropy and dark knight skins are existence proofs that div based skins *can* work.  I think you need to narrow it down to find out what breaks it.

Start off with your working html - if you could do that with NO css it would be good.  You probably cannot so try for the bare minimum CSS.

Do the absolute minimum to turn it into a skin - don't add ANY DNN objects.

Assuming that still works then start adding css and DNN objects until you find what breaks it.

Then we need to think about why it breaks and how to correct it.

Best wishes,

I only do div based skins and they can work fine.
You should first do an XHTML validation test to make sure you don't have an HTML errors on the page.
I see at least one div that has not been closed.

HTML errors on a page can cause all kinds of strange behaviour in different systems / different browsers.

Normally if you use floats, you float all divs left and the last one right.
In your case
.leftside: float:left
.rightside {float:right}

Also you need to clear you floats.
In your case .bottomspace{clear:both;}

If you don't do this the containing element of the float get's a height 0 and you can get strange effects.
