(This decision has been discussed in the core team and it's going to stay that way AFAIK)

I'm not sure that's the real issue as much as installing as Host and having the skin appear in the portal's skin folder and not the _default folder.  In a reseller situation where a skin is purchased by a portal admin and isn't supposed to be available at the host level this might be an issue.

@sandraqu: Did you ever find out how to upload a skin .zip file?

@sandraqu: you are almost there, make sure you are in Edit mode and in Host > Extensions you should see the Install Extension Wizard in the Manage menu or you can use the link at the bottom of the screen.

 Jeff,
The thing is that it's really easy to create and upload a skin that shows you the host password, because a skin can contain code.
That's why admins are not allowed to upload skins any more (as most Host users don't realise what the risk is)
I know that's an issue for some users, but the team decided against allowing this very serious security risk.
Anyway, it has been discussed in the core team when DNN 5 came out  and AFAIK it's not going to be changed back.

BTW, creating a module that does allow admin skin upload should not be that difficult (although just as insecure), but AFAIK nobody created one.

Hi Timo, Jeff... thanks for the replies.

Timo, I am aware that Admin users can no longer install skins and appreciate the reasons for that change.

Are you also saying that skins can only be uploaded to the _default folder for the same reasons? As Jeff points out, there are good reasons why we would want skins loaded to the relevant portal folder.

So I guess my question is: When logged in as Host, and installing a skin via Admin/Extensions, should the skin be loaded into /portals//skins? i.e. not the _default folder.

If your answer to this question is yes, then this is not how v6 is behaving.

Thank in advance

Phil
