I've been trying to upgrade my 5.6.3 site to 6.1 with no luck.  I copy over the upgrade files and I get the "This site is currently Unavailable" error.  From what I have read this is usually a db problem. The site works just fine before the upgrade and all I do is copy over the new 6.1 upgrade files (no my web.config is not getting overwritten).  I re-cycle the app pool and browse the site.   I put on SQL Trace and I see DNNCore connecting and the only commnad it issues is a exec dbo.GetDatabaseVersion command.  Then nothing.  I"m running SQL 2008 R2 developer.

Any suggestions?  This is very frustrating because I can't even find an error to track down.....

Thanks,

Chad.

im not sure in that case, typically it is db related (usually someone has manually updated the web.confi and missed 1 of the connectionstring's) - you can check the log files and see if there errors (see http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Resources/Wiki/Page/Diagnosing-database-errors.aspx ) - it's also an idea to ensure that before you unzip the upgrade zip file you right click, select properties and click "unblock". Finally, ensure that web.config is not read-only and that the user the application pool is working under has modifty rights for all files.

So, I checked everything that Cathal said and it was allready all done. I even set the dir permissions to everyone-full control. No luck.

What did work: I navigated to /install/install.aspx?mode=upgrade from a suggestion on this thread http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Resources/Forums/forumid/107/threadid/433424/scope/posts.aspx

And the upgrad process kicked off and and site was up and running! Not sure why it did not auto upgrade, but I'm glad this worked.

Thanks Cathal and Sebastian!

Chad.

I am glad you were able to solve your issue, it looks like autoupgrade has been turned off in web config (not a bad idea for security though) :)
