Visitors to my site are having trouble registering.  With at least some of them it is due to the password requirements.  There is nothing on the registration page that says what the password requirements are.  When a user registers with a simple password, it just reloads the registration screen.  A message indicating the problem would be helpful.

I am running v6.00.01.  How do I change the text on the registration screen and is it possible to have a message display why the registration failed?

What are the password requirements?

Hello,

Password requirements are set in the web.config file and can be edited through the configuration manager in the host area.

Once you open the configuration manager, select the "web.config" configuration file and hit control-F and search for "enablePasswordReset" or something... That will take to to the block where the password settings are listed. The settings are described in comments above the actual settings tag.

Hope this helps,

Mike

Now I know what the requirements are, but how can I tell site visitors what those requirements are on the registration page?

Upgraded to 6.0.0.2.

Hi Angel,

The Register and Login pages are special protected pages and if you want to customise either then you have to create new pages as follows:

Before we start, be careful NOT to name your new page 'register' (same goes for any custom Login page, do NOT name it 'login')
  • Create a new page (hide it from the navigation and set viewing permissions to Unauthenticated Users only)
  • Add the Users and Roles module to the page
  • Delete the other two modules leaving just the Add New Users module (don't worry, it will display as User Registration)
  • Add an HTML module to the page and add your custom text
  • Save the page
When ready and having tested it works:
  • Go to Admin > Site Settings > Advanced Settings tab > Page Management
  • Set the Registration page to your new custom page
  • Click Update
Hope that helps!
