I need to be able to set different permissions for different forums in different forum groups. Basically I need some security roles to be able to not see, or see but not post in certain forums. It seems like the permissions are available to do this, but the settings are disabled.

Thanks for the help Chris, it seems like changing it to "Private No Moderation w/ Post Restrictions" enables all of the permission check boxes and gives me the control i need. 

One other question, No one is getting emails when people respond to posts on the forum.  Is that because Notifications is unchecked?  I would check it, but it is also disabled...   
Ideally i would like a way for a user to:
 - Subscribe to a forum, so they get emails when ever a new thread is added to the forum
 - Subscribe to a thread, so they get emails whenever a new post is added to the thread

I appropriate all of the help.  Is there a manual that would cover these kinds of questions?
