I've been trying with no success  to copy across my DNN6 local installation onto a shared Fasthosts server - I keep gettinig an Internal Server 500 error. (Up till now, I have had a DNN4 installation successfully running with them for a few years).

Support has got back to me to tell me that that due to a recent change in their shared hosting infrastructure, thery are unable to support Virtual DIR which is required by DotNetNuke. Before I resolve to move hosting provider, I wanted to check with the assorted experts here whether that this explanation make sense.

Thanks in advance

Alex

DotNetNuke needs to run in an application, either in the root or an application off that i.e. it will not run as expected just in a folder.

Thanks for your quick response - was this also the case for DNN4 as I was successfully using this on their shared server until I deleted it a couple of days ago?

no, it's not version specific, it's always been the way - placing the source in a subfolder typically just means it's a root site that is the application i.e. the root is mysite.com , you have a folder called "foux" with dotnetnuke in it so all requests are seen as mysite.com/foux (just as a virtual application) but paths are calculated per the root rather than the folder

Thanks for your help. I'll try to get Fasthosts to work out why I could install one but not the other - but failing that, it looks like I will be moving provider!
