thanks, Matt.. we did that, originally.. it ground to a halt there and/or in the body.. now that it's working in the body, I'll get them to try to paste it back into the header, and see if that's good, too..

it's a mystery :)

mystery solved.. one of the files I had saved in Front Page had saved the links as "file://" instead of "http://" .. it was grinding away looking for a local file.. once somebody noticed that and fixed it, all is well.. thanks for the suggestions and the help !!!
