To Ed: I was fearful it was going to be difficult. However the good news is that the hosting support are happy to help and have full FTP and SQL access.
We can use FTP to get all the portal files, images and skin stuff and I'm hoping there may be some SQL export function to get the portal data out.

You will need "Host" level access - or the assistance of someone who has Host access.
You go to: Host -->Portals and then click on "Export Portal Template". Make sure you put a check in the box "Include Content".

It will create the files you will need to transfer the content from one portal to another.

One note: you will need to ensure that you have all of the required modules already installed on the target (new DNN installation) before you import.

Also I am not sure what DNN versions you are working with but there can be some issues related to newer/older versions. The export/import makes it sound easy but that is not always the case.

If you want a hand just contact me.
