I have started my skinning experience by trying to rearranged some things on the DNN Blue Fixed Width scheme: Horizontal Menu - Fixed Width.htm.  The changes I have made to it's related CSS file show up right away on the site, but any changes I make to the .htm file (such as removing the breadcrumb, moving login to bottom of page) do not show up on the live site after I FTP the file up.

My site is using 'portal' then I have the mentioned skin selected.  Am I missing something here? Is there a site cache that needs to be updated or something?

Thanks.

You need to go into the Admin/Skins or Host/Skins and click the reparsing of skins in that folder.

You see, html is the staic whay that, to work correctly requires it to be zipped and installed, using the upload skin function - where DotNetNuke then uses the skinning engine to read the html elements, and the xml elements and create a ascx file of the same name.

You can work in the method you are doing - via ftp - but you need to request the skin to be reparsed - so it applies your changes.

Thanks Nina. It took a couple false starts but eventually I sorted it out.

I made some basic changes to the DNN Blue skin, then zipped up the dir, and put it into the ~/install/skin directory, and uploaded it.

Then runnining ~/install/install.aspx?mode=installresources installed the skin and I selected the new, modified skin from the menu.

Thanks!

Oh wow, that's something I've never done  - you don't have to do that. I suggest you ftp to a folder, unzipped,  under the _default/skins/foldername/  or 0/skins/foldername.

Then - go into Admin/Skins (if uploaded to 0) or Host/Skins (if uploaded to _default) and then reparse the skins again to take up the changes.

Or go to Admin/Settings/ and upload from there - and let the skinning engine reparse it.

Where you placed them is really for the upgrading of the complete portal and not the advised way even though it appeared to work for you.

I'm learning something every day here -
