I started with a clean installation of DNN 6.1.0, ran the Event Module installation (5.2.0) and looked at the event log as you recommended. There is the following General Exception:-

There is a subsequent alert later on but I assume the above error is the problem. Do you have any suggestions as to a solution?

Kind regards

To be honest this looks like a bug with the DNN Core rather than with the Events module, the error shows as not being able to find the 4.1.1 SQLDataProvider. I have no idea why that should be since presumably it must have found the providers for previous versions.

Have you tried downloading the install directly off our CodePlex site? Or you could try the beta version of 5.2.1 which you can download from the site, but I'm not convinced there will be anything fundamentally different there...

Not sure how to help from here.

Hi Roger

Being new to DNN I have struggled and failed to install the Module from a download rather than using the built in installation wizard.

The problem seems to be an old problem, I came across the following thread when I was trying to work out how to manually install the beta version:-

http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Resources/Forums/forumid/199/postid/434892/scope/posts.aspx#434892

I will persevere in my attempts to install the beta, but given that the module seems to have a history with the problem, I not confident it will solve the problem even if I manage to do install it.

Kind regards

Ian,

Assuming this is a new install, you can try the following
  • Download the module form CodePlex, unzip it
  • Find Uninstall.SQLDataProvider and open in Notepad or similar
  • Copy and paste all the content into the Host/SQL dialogue. Tick the 'Run as script' box and click execute.
    • This should completey remove the module from the database.
  • Then reinstall using the downloaded copy of the module

Please post back if this doesn't work.

Regards
Roger

Hi Roger

Thanks for the reply.

The problem isn't with tidying up from the previous installation, its running the installation from the downloaded copy that has me stumpted:(. I am sure it is just a case on clicking the right button or executing the correct installation script, but as it is so simple there does not seem to be any documentation on it anywhere; everyone assumes you will be using the module deployment wizard.

Kind regards
