I am having troubles upgrading from 5.6.1 to 5.6.2. (or to 5.6.3 or 5.6.4) Does somebody have any more suggestions that I could try?

Here is my adventure so far.

We use the Professional version of DNN. It is my task to test upgraing DNN. Toward that goal we have a test server and I am using a test DB. I have done

the upgrade several times, so the answer to your first quesion is "Yes, I have backups."

Here are the steps that I have taken:

I obtained the DotNetNuke_Professional_05.06.02_Upgrade.Zip package.

I went to the properties and clicked the Unblock button. I opened the .ZIP file to another location, so as not to unzip them directly to the web site.

I moved all the install files to the website.

I started the Install using

mywebsite/install/install.aspx?mode=upgrade

(by the way I tried it with the same results using mywebsite/install/install.aspx?mode=installresources)

I do not want to bore you with all the items that apperared in the Upgrade Status Report, so I will inclde only the Error items:

00:02:03.271 - Installing Package File DNNPro_05.06.02_Install: Error!
00:02:04.084 - Installing Package File DNNPro_DocumentLibrary_05.06.02_Install: Error!
00:02:09.741 - Installing Package File Telerik_05.06.02_Install: Error!
00:02:11.194 - Installing Package File CoreSitemapProvider_05.06.02_Install: Error!
00:02:14.819 - Installing Package File TelerikEditorProvider_05.06.02_Install: Error!

I am not sure what exactly all the errors mean, but I have been concentrating on the Telerik issue, due to the following explanation. At the bottom of the

Upgrade report, there is the link "Click Here To Access Your Portal", which is just the same as goin to the web site. When I go there I get this:

==========================================================================================================
Server Error in '/' Application.

Description: An error occurred during the compilation of a resource required to service this request. Please review the following specific error details and

modify your source code appropriately.

So there may be other errors, but I have been concentrating on the Telerik issues.

This may be the most complete thread discussing the issues that I have been dealing with:

Per suggestions in the Forums I have tried the following:
I got Telerik.Web.UI.dll from the Telerik_05.06.02_Install.ZIPpackage, and put it in the BIN directory.

In the web.config file I changed this:

To this:

That resusted in even worse results I navigated to the web site:
Firefox - Content Encodign Error
Chrome - This webpage is not available.

most likely, there is a permission issue for the Windoes user used by ASP.Net as configured in your IIS Application Pool, which needs read and write permission in DNN installation folder and all subfolders - I assume those are missing, when you moved the installation to a different server.

Sebastian,

I attempted to install again, and I had the same results.

You may need to be more specific for me. I see the application pools, as I have several application pools. I am not sure which user I want to look at, but we did look at the root directory for the web code. For good measure we made sure that all the defined users had permission to "This folder, subfolders and files." Additionally, we made sure that teh "Read-only" property was not set.

Do you have otehr suggestions?

Thanks

Exelis, in your web site basic settings, you will find the information, which App Pool is used. Next, check the Application Pool settings by selecting the proper item from the server list. Make sure, the web site is using same ASP.Net version, as on previously used server and in extended settings, check the ASP.Net Identity, by default, it should be "Network Service" or "Application Pool Identity", which is a bit more difficult to configure, see http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Resources/Blogs/EntryId/2420/Windows-7-Windows-2008-R2-cross-application-pool-isolation.aspx.

Sebastian,

We're using IIS 7 (7.0.60000.16386)

Using ASP.Net version is v2.0 (That is what I see in the .NET Framework Colum in the Application Pools screen.) That is the same version as the server that this was repicated from.

If I look at the Basic Settings for the Default Web Site, the application pool is: DefaultAppPool

Under IIS, if I look at all the available Application Pools, the Identity for DefaultAppPool is NetworkService.

The NetworkService user had full permissions to the web root directory and the read-only property was not turned on.

I still had the same results. Thanks for your suggestions. Any other thoughts/ideas?

Thanks
