The purpose of taking additional time on the blog post is so that we make sure we provide the correct information and full explanation. The root of this problem comes down to modules not properly loading jQuery. We could either continue to allow developers to add more bloat to the page output or we could use this as an opportunity to educate and promote best practices. The other problem is that CSS and JS issues are not always the same.

The changes that we introduced in 6.1.0 are extremely important to the overall health of the platform. At some point we have to do what is necessary to improve DotNetNuke overall. I've seen many modules and skins that very blindly load jQuery and jQuery UI. This adds to the overall payload of the page and causes numerous conflicts.

Obviously, we aren't expecting you to keep refreshing the blog page. Ian Robinson is working on the blog post now. When it is complete we will update the various threads.

All,

Here is the blog post illustrating the situation. I hope it helps everyone understand what is happening and give some insights into how we can move forward.

I guess the blog post did help educate me some, but not enough for me to solve my problems. My Admin menu and Manage buttons don't even work on things like the Event Viewer where there are not third party modules, with the exception of my MegaMenu from DNN360. So I will probably need to update things like Active Social when a patch is available, but that won't be sufficient to solve my problems.

The Admin menu and Manage buttons work fine if I just switch from Edit to Layout View. So can that provide any clues about what is causing the issue for me? If I change my skin to Dark Knight it all works. So I know it has to be something with either my skin directly or my menu.

I know how to poke around a bit using Firebug. But I don't know what to really look for. Is there something that should or shouldn't show up in my scripts that would cause this type of issue?

I know it is asking a lot but a short screen capture video with some possible scenarios would be awesome. Or I could just pay someone (hint hint Ian) to jump on my server for a few minutes and help figure this out.

Well, it just hit me that one of the features of my MegaMenu from Dao at DNN360 is to embed other module content. I finally realized that I was embedding an Active Social module to show Latest Members in my Community Content main menu item. So basically that was placing an AS module on every page and thus breaking the jQuery. I removed that module content from my MegaMenu code and all is well now. Glad to have that issue resolved.

Now I am just awaiting the Active Social patch and then I can finalize my site and start the launch sequence. I guess I would be remiss in my duties as a pest if I didn't make one more plea for Will to include any Active Social 2.0 functionality that is ready for prime time in this patch. If nothing is ready in AS 2.0 is there an updated release status?

Hi Steven,
We believe there is an issue with any module that loads an additional instance of jQuery under 6.1.1. This is the case with Active Social and a few other modules that have also been mentioned in other threads. We are still trying to track down the exact problem so that we can provide the appropriate response. We should have a more details before the end of the day.

Thanks,
Will

Is there any place where the identities of the other modules known to cause issues have been aggregated? It will save a lot of time following the rabbit trail. Thanks!
