  I'm getting a runtime error on the install with the message about turning the "customErrors mode="Off"/>" to see the errors.    I don't find that command in the web.config file and if I add it I get a server error.  I've tried both the install wizard and manually entering in the connection strings for the database with the same result.   It's been quite awhile since I've done a new install and I'm running out of ideas to try.  Anyone experience this or have any ideas for me?

the default web.config should have the following line

<customErrors mode="RemoteOnly" />

the message is suggesting you change it to the following - note the capital O in Off (it's case-sensitive)

<customErrors mode="Off" />

  Thanks...guess I was too blurry-eyed to see it last night.  Made the change and got this error message :

Parser Error Message: It is an error to use a section registered as allowDefinition='MachineToApplication' beyond application level.  This error can be caused by a virtual directory not being configured as an application in IIS.

Source Error:

Line 98: </system.webServer> Line 99: <system.web> Line 100: <machineKey validationKey="F9D1A2D3E1D3E2F7B3D9F90FF3965ABDAC304902" decryptionKey="F9D1A2D3E1D3E2F7B3D9F90FF3965ABDAC304902F8D923AC" decryption="3DES" validation="SHA1"/> Line 101: <!-- HttpModules for Common Functionality --> Line 102: <httpModules>
I hope there's a simple explanation for this.  I think I'm starting to get over my head now.

you need to install DNN in the root of your web site, not a subfolder.

Ahhh...That's where I started out, but I read an article that said if I was going to add a portal, to create a sub-folder (suggested /dnn/ ) to install it to (the main dnn prg and folders).
Maybe I mis-understood what they were saying. I'll move it back tonight and see if I can't get it working and worry about the portal later. I know on an earlier version I installed it
to a subdirectory and used a java re-direct to it. I haven't kept up with the changes in dnn. Thanks all.
