I am running on 5.6.2 on a hosted server.  Because they force me to use a virtual drive, I decided to host it on my own server.  I have successfully downloaded the file structure and database and have created a new site in IIS6 and restored to SQL 2005 SP4 Express without any problems.  I have also adjusted web.config to the new database location.  The problem I'm having is that when I browse the new location, it goes straight to installation mode.  I still have all of my access to the current site on the hosted server if I need to change something before the migration.

What could I be missing?

Use the original files from your hosted environment on the new server, change both SQL strings.  Make sure your database user is added to the database, and have dbowner perimissions, and is on the correct Schema.

Make sure you have setup the protocolls for your SQL Server and opened the SQL port on the firewall (min. for internal use)

The web.config file have a maschine Key that is case sensitive to the database for decryption and encryption.  So you have to be sure that you use the same maschine Key that was used on your hosting!

Forgot the file permissions.  Be sure your application pool users have change or full permissions for the files and folders in your DotNetNuke folder and subfolders!
