Hi,

I was reading a post and I noted this comment:

"Hi, We think a  correction is needed here.  DotNetNuke uses WURFL, but does NOT license it. As far as we can tell, DNN integrated old versions of the API (without the new device recognition intelligence) and repository (missing a bunch of the latest device profiles) in order to work around current WURFL licensing terms. We in ScientiaMobile are unhappy with this operation and looking into its legitimacy.
Thank youLuca Passani, ScientiaMobile"

We have been looking at purchasing the commercial version because of the platform we worked on for a year and a half and we need security on directories and mobile version but as of late.. seen some comments on performance of DNN 6 commercial not being that much better.. and then this on the mobile ?

I am looking at WP for the mobile version of our sites as it is simple and cheap.. and amazon S3 for file security.  it obviously won't provide the security and the portal options we have on our main site but we definitely need the mobile version and right now the only way to get that is to purchase it. I think some of the features of the commercial version is great for big companies that use sharepoint etc and have infrastructures but what about small companies like us? Can there be a small business version that offers some of the commercial features for less money?

Are there plans to make DNN community mobile featured? if so when and will it have all the detection services?

We are forced into looking at mobile solutions NOW... so many of our clients in real estate utilize mobile here in Northern virginia. We don't have the time to wait if we want to be visible. And with the statistics that mobile platforms will succeed desktops in 2 years.. is it really worth investing money in a website platform that is not going to provide mobile features or provide limited ones..

Thank you!

Ayda

that article is incorrect - we used a version of WURFL from June 2011 that predated the change of the licence to AGPL - as such we are perfectly legal and compliant. However we cannot update to more recent versions as due to the licence change we would have to pay - we are investigating how best to support mobile device detection going forward. The API was intoduced in 6.1.0 and can be called from your code - http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Resources/W...
