Hi,

I followed the steps to upgrade DNN via ftp.
However, i ended up with an error at "Installing Optional Skins" and had a runtime error.
So the upgrade did not complete. I tried restoring the webfiles back to the hosting site.
And re-do the upgrade process again. This time i get an "Unhandled Error"

Appreciate your feedback.
Thanks.

When an upgrade fails it is necessary to restore not only all of the filesystem from a backup but to also restore the MS SQL server database from its backup. Hopefully you made a database backup prior to the upgrade attempt.

What was the runtime error that you received during the upgrade? A timeout or file system permissions error perhaps?

Hi,

I am getting the following runtime error.

Server Error in '/' Application.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Runtime Error
Description: An application error occurred on the server. The current custom error settings for this application prevent the details of the application error from being viewed remotely (for security reasons). It could, however, be viewed by browsers running on the local server machine.

Details: To enable the details of this specific error message to be viewable on remote machines, please create a tag within a "web.config" configuration file located in the root directory of the current web application. This tag should then have its "mode" attribute set to "Off".

Notes: The current error page you are seeing can be replaced by a custom error page by modifying the "defaultRedirect" attribute of the application's configuration tag to point to a custom error page URL.

1. Open your site's web.config file for editing.

2. Search for the customErrors element and change the value of its mode attribute to "Off". Note that web.config elements are case sensitive so be sure to use an upper case "O" and lower case "ff" in "Off".

            <customErrors mode="Off" />

3. Resave or re-upload the modified web.config to your site's root folder.

When you now browse to your site you should see the details of the error which you may post here for further assistance. Be sure to change the customErrors mode back to its original value - most likely "RemoteOnly" after you have viewed the error details as leaving the mode set to "Off" can expose sensitive information such as database connection strings, etc.

Was this the original error that you got during the upgrade or the one you are now getting following restoration of the files from backup?

If you had created a database backup prior to the first upgrade attempt I would suggest restoring that as well as the file system backup rather than trying to spend time tracking down the current error.

Hi,

Yes this is the original error during the upgrade.

I manage to restore the files and bring up site which is the older version.
However the upgrade still does not work. So instead i tried on the installation package and it was successful.

Thanks.
