Hello,

This is my first time using a Windows server for shared hosting so my apologies if I seem a little "simple" at any point.

For the last 6 days I have been trying to install DNN on my Windows hosting using WebMatrix, every file publishes fine apart from Telerik.Web.UI.dll. After countless hours deleting all the files then trying to re-upload them (average of 29Kb/s upload speed!) I decided to contact the hosting support on day 2 of the attempted install. 4 days have passed since then and they've been no help at all so far.

After trying different FTP clients with no success, I decided to try the webFTP client provided. After about half an hour it gives me the message:

"File size too big (max. 20,000,000 bytes)"

This is relating to the Telerik.Web.UI.dll (20,141,568 bytes).

Is there any way I can get around this without changing hosting provider?

this sound like bandwidth issue. maybe you can ask the host to download the dnn package and install for you

29kb/s - are you (or your host) on modem dial up?

The 29k is my upload speed, I'm with Sky....

I also tried from my college who have a super fast connection (downloaded a 4gb iso in less than ten minutes).

Those speeds sound very average - you should be able to upload a full dnn site using ftp in less that 30mins on an average link connection.

If you can connect to your host's ftp server directly I would be using a real ftp client like filezilla or cuteftp.

It's my Sky broadband connection, appallingly slow but there's no fibre-optic in the area. I also tried from my collage (I can download a 4gb ISO in less than ten minutes) but had the same results.

Whole site (including about half of the telerik file takes about an hour and 3 minutes according to WebMatrix log). Using Filezilla I get the error 550 Access Denied which seemed strange as I able to upload everything everywhere else but the telerik file fails to upload anywhere, this is why I tried to upload via the web UI where I was told the max file size was about 19.07mb (telerik file being 19.2mb).

I have sent a message to the hosting provider to tell them it's a file size restriction causing the problem (even though they've been trying to find out what's been causing this without success, strangely not even mentioning the max file size despite me telling them the size of the file). Maybe in a week I'll have a response from them.

Until then, or if they fail to resolve, is there any sort of workaround I could use like reducing the file size or splitting the file?
