I'm having an issue with the module class name changing when exporting a site as a template and creating a new site from that template.

For example the class on a basic HTML module in the original site had a class of DnnModule-653, but on the new site it has a class of DnnModule-774. Of course the problem is that I have referenced those classes in my style sheet which keeps it from being targeted on the new site.

I would simply do a find/replace in my style sheet but there or a number of modules who's classes changed and I will also need to be doing this process (export/import template) many times for new sites.

Is there a way to maintain the same class names for every module when exporting?

Or does anyone have a suggestion of a better way to target a specific module with CSS (like maybe adding an id to a module)?

Thanks!

no, there is no way to preserve the ID as the content is added as new and not syncronised (FYI the enterprise edition of DotNetNuke does have a content staging function which does this) - i would encourage you not to rely on this value and instead target the containing DIV or else add your own id via the module settings which will be preserved - see http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Resources/Forums/forumid/201/postid/444681/scope/posts.aspx#444681 for examples of either approach.

Thanks Cathal, adding my own id to the module using the header and footer fields in the module's settings works well. Thanks for the quick reply!

That being said I did have an issue getting the header / footer content to carry across all pages on which the module resides. I ended up deleting the module (including from the recycle bin) and re-adding it to get it to display across all pages including the header / footer content.

Maybe this will help someone else having the same issue, or help to improve the next version (assuming it's a bug).
