Hey guys, I'm at the end of my rope with this one. The smtp settings I use for my email account on my domain work. I get email with them regularly. But I CANNOT get them to take in the Host Settings:SMTP Server Settings section. I even had my hosting provider test the actual text I am entering, and they can send mail with those settings/credentials.

I'm not sure where to turn. The hosting provider and even myself can confirm the settings I'm entering are correct. Is there a special syntax or other step I'm missing.

Here is what I'm entering:
mail.mydomain.com:2525
basic
account@domain.com
password

The error message I get when I Test SMTP Settings is:
"There has been an error trying to send the test email. The error is:
The message was not delivered to the following address(es) -"

Note that there is no email address listed. This is the same message I get if i purposefully enter incorrect credentials as well, so that tells me the message doesn't necessarily indicate what the error actually is.

Lastly, if I change the port to an unsuppoted port I get this error instead, leading me to think it is at least passing the "port test" in the previous attempt:
"There is a problem with the configuration of your SMTP Server. Mail was not sent"

If I could get some guidance on this otherwise completely basic problem I would be really grateful.
Thanks!

please check that you are using valid sender address's - log in as host and go to host->host settings then host details and make sure host email is an address you can send from .

Also, it's good to check admin->site settings then advanced settings and then security settings to see who the portal administrator is - and then check what email address they are using e.g. under admin->user accounts.

That's it! I have to say that a little note, or even better a link to the counterpart settings, or at least some kind of indication that there were more input fields required would be useful.

Thanks!

Jason

Hi just reading this post in an attempt to resolve an issue with SMTP settings.   I've installed, set up and run 30+ DNN sites.  It's unusual to have challenges with SMTP settings.  Yet l have have issues with setting the SMTP password.  This is what l have done this evening, when l wanted to update my SMTP password.

Goto Host Settings -> Advanced Settings -> SMTP Server Settings

'Update SMTP settings' with new password, press 'Test SMTP Settings' Get message email sent successfully, receive email my email inbox.

Goto to bottom of page press 'Update' button at bottom page.  Go back to 'Update SMTP settings' press 'Test SMTP Settings' (note no changes made).  Get message get message email sent successfully, no email received.

To change my STMP password, l had to the do the following.

Goto Host Settings -> Advanced Settings -> SMTP Server Settings

Put my new password into STMP password text box. Goto to bottom of page press 'Update' button at bottom page.

Goto another page

Goto Host Settings -> Advanced Settings -> SMTP Server Settings

Press 'Test SMTP Settings' (note no changes made).  Get message get message email sent successfully, then an email will gets to my inbox.

Is this intentional?  I've had a number of issues with this site, since upgrading to V7, and l am particularly nervous about upgrading other sites to V7.  This site in particular has had issue with a number of modules from various developers, which l l am in process of following up.

The version of l am using is CE v7.2.2
