I wanted to reply to a previous posting on this but the Reply button isn't working for me in Google Chrome.

Has anything happened at all on an optional Anonymous posting function being added?

I really would like to see this added as it's really holding back the appeal of my forums.  Something that allows registered users to select a checkbox for "make anonymous" in a forum post/reply, so it hides their name on it and in their history to others but still lets them get notifications, track it etc.

Sometimes registered users, particularly if professionals, want to hide themselves from questions asked or statements made for various reasons that I'm sure most could understand.

That thread is locked, I haven't reviewed the whole thread to figure out why, but that is why you can't reply to it.

Is there any update on this feature?

The 'core' forum module, as you know it, has been retired. Because the module is retired, the feature will not be added. A replacement module (formerly known as Active Forums) will take its place. I believe AF supports anonymous posting, but I am not 100% certain.

Ok, a bit sad to hear as the module does seems to have improved and had some serious bugs ironed out over the last few years.

Does that mean AF will be able to be installed over the top, maintaining all forum posts, existing post links etc?

I am not sure how that fits in with everything either as it's a commercial module and the free version has restrictions that were turning me off ever using it, unless that's changed.
