I can allow unregistered users to see the forums by giving them the 'view' permission, but I want them to be able to use it..

to make threads and reply to others...without having to give them the 'edit' permission..

so do I need to edit the module?

That's not possible.

Do you know the truth when you hear it?

Let me get this straight.  You're telling me that, in order to allow my users to post to the forum, I have to give them edit permission to the module/page?  So any Joe Schmo who logs in can alter page settings such as title, description etc.  This is the behavior that I'm experiencing, and that's simply unacceptable.

The only access options I see are "View" or "Edit".  This seems like a catch-22.

What settings and permissions do I need to give users the right to post to forums, but NOT to edit my page settings?

edit rights to a module dont give access to module settings, that only happens if you give access rights to the page

cheers,
