Hello,

I'm writing to try and get feedback on whether or not this calendar will do what I'm looking for and if not maybe another recommendation or solution to look for.  Here's an over view for what I'm after for this project/calendering solution.

  •     Calendar will be for a town website.
  • Town has many many departments and organizations that it is responsible for when it comes to upcoming events and listings.
  • Master calendar should be made up of around 25 unique calendars with their own events and info.
  • Need the ability to show a master calendar with every event posted.
  • need the ability to show calendars on specific pages specific to just that department or page info.
  • Need filtering ability to choose what categories or calendar info they want to view.
  • looking for ability to have outside agencies submit calendar events and info online to be considered or approved for updating.  Much of the problem currently is that there is not a good or consistent way for gathering events to be posted online.  the thought is if we were to offer a template or form that allows outside agencies to submit their info to us rather than trying to get it from them.

My first thought was to deploy this events module and then have each calendar just be a category on one event module, but I think that is going to get tricky...  I anticipate each calendar having it's own set of categories just specific to that one calendar, so that rules that out.  I then saw that there is a setting to include "sub calendars"  from other event calendars.  Can anyone recommend that it would be a good solution to setup each calendar as a unique calendar and then for the master calendar just pull in every sub calendar on the site and deploy things that way?  How are calendar categories then handled?  for example, if i was to setup 10 unique calendars on the dnn site.  Then setup a master calendar choosing all 10 sub calendars to be shown.  would the master calendar then show all events, categories and details from each of the 10 calendars into my master calendar?

Any help or pointers would be very much appreciated.  If there is a better way to go about this I would love to hear it.

thanks,

You get most things right: subcalendars on pages, master calendar summarizing all data from all subcalendars, category selection, date selection, entering events with approval in subcalendars etc..

There is one thing that you cannot do: limiting categories to a specific subcalendar. Categories are portal wide and not limited to a specific instance of the module on a page. So the list of categories (if set to be displayed) will be present in every instance of the Events module.
