Hi,

I have a dotnetnuke site that stops woking maybe once a month, it displays the under construction page. I have to restarts the worker process or touch the web.config file (add a space and save).

I have a monitoring tool that runs the keepalive.aspx page but that page continues working. Which makes me think that it might be something related to the database connection.

I would really like to find the source of this problem because the monitoring tool does no see the site as being down and I only realize the issue when the customer calls me to complain about the site not working (sometimes for many many hours).

What steps could I take to find the cause of that?

I have DotNetNuke 6.1.3 with CATALooK 6.4.8 on that site.
I have installed Spiffy Database Monitor. It reduced the amount of times the site goes down, but it still happens.
The site log has nothing interresting logged when it happens other than "Application started" when I restart the site.

It sounds to me like the Database server is going down, installing updates, or rebooting.

Yes, however I have other dotnetnuke installations on that same sql server and they don't have the same issue.

Is there any logs I could check that may help me find the problem?

checck application events for sql server in your windows event log. The server might e.g. have slow response, during backup or index reorg operations.

Thanks Sebastian,

I found some login errors in SQL Server logs, I searched google for the error code and it looks like that error is usualy a permissions error for SQL server.

I found that the user was not assigned db_owner permissions. I set that permission but since the issue only happens maybe once a month, I will have to wait to know if that was the problem.

We'll see...
