I'm new to DotNetNuke and our company is looking for discussion forum software. Is this forum module downloadable and able to be used as a sperate module strictly for a intranet discussion forum?

Thanks

there are a few free ones, the dotnetnuke forum module being the most popular - see http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Community/E... . Note: the forum module is about to have a large overhaul, integrating in the popilar ActiveForums module and adding lots of cool stuff to work well with the forthcoming 6.2.0 release of DotNetNuke. I'd expect it to come out in the same time frame (few weeks time)

Cathal is this Active Forum integration going to be part of the community edition, and will the source code be made available? I've heard rumors for some time now that would be the case, and I'm upgrading my site and trying to plan whether to keep Active Forum or convert to a new forum.

Thoughts?

I'm too poor for anything other than the community version

yes, all the social features are in CE and the activeforums post is going to be released as a free opensource project - it's actually the activeforums module updated and enhanced for intergration with the social features in 6.2.0 (plus some additional functionality migrated over from the exisiting core module AFAIK) - it's planned to be released around when 6.2.0 comes out, at this point I believe it's core complete and the migration scripts have been succesfully tested against dotnetnuke.com's forum version which should be upgraded when 6.2.0 is out.

Cathal, (or anyone else) where can we find information about upgrading from the core DNN forum module to the Active Forums 5 module for DNN 6.2? I recently figure out how to upgrade from DNN Forum 5.3 to AF 4.3.8, but it's a complicated, multi-step process. If I can be certain that we can upgrade directly from DNN Forum to AF with tested tools/scripts and I know that AF 5 (and the migration tools) will be released reasonably soon, I can hold off on upgrading.
