This has been bugging me since version 3.1.1. My site uses the Search token in the same way it is done on this site. Once I do not set a custom login page in the Site settings it does not remember the password. If I click in the User Name box I get normally a list with UserNames I used in the past to logon to my site and when I choose one it fills in the password also. This only works when I create a custom Login tab with a skin applied without the Search Token and assign this Login tab in Site Settings to 'Login Page'.

Because of the changes in DNN 4.3 I can and want no longer use the custom Login page setting in Site Settings. You may wonder why? This is really simple. If you look at the email send when a user signs up for the first time it has the UserName and Verification code already in the URL in the welcome mail. This is really nice because the user only needs to fill in the password and he/she is logged into the site. If you set a custom Login page in the Site settings this no longer works.

Bottom line:

  • I don't want to use a custom login page.
  • I want to keep the Search token where it is now.
  • I want the browser to fill in the password as soon as I click in the UserName box and choose a username I previously used to logon to the site.

Any ideas how to fix this?

Ok, I have found a workaround that is better then the previous workaround. Instead of putting the Search token in the skin I decided to replace that with a pane I called "SearchPane". Within that new SearchPane I added the Search Input module. I created a new search_go.gif that matches the design of my site. It seems that whenever you click on Register or Login DNN does not load any other modules and because Search is now loaded as a module and not anymore as a token in the skin this fixed it for me
