I have several questions about the messaging module that I will leave below in a numbered list. I would find it really helpful if anyone who is answering could put the number beside the question they are answering so it is more clear for me. Thanks in advance.

1) Is it possible to use the messaging module to send messages to specific user groups? I know the newsletters module has this but I can't figure out if the messaging module does as well. If so, how do I implement this feature?

2) Suppose I am creating a website for different companies to use, call them Company 1 and Company 2. Could I have 2 different messaging modules on the same page where each module will receive different kinds of messages? i.e. one module receives daily and system messages which are directed to users from both company 1 and company 2 where as the second module for Company 1 receives messages just for Company 1 and the same thing for Company 2.

3) If the messaging module does not support these kinds of activities, is there any other module that does? If possible, include a module other than the newsletters one because I want the messages displayed on the site, not sent to the user emails.

1. the current messaging module (known as "systems messaging" internally) does support sending to roles via the API but not the UI - however the new messaging module coming in 6.2.0 supports sending to users, roles and social groups all via the UI so it may be better to wait until early June when it is released.

2.no, both messaging modules work at a portal level and a user level so any messages sent to the user appear in the portal level instance. If you want different messages for different companies, really you need those companies to have different user accounts.

3, i dont know of any offhand, but there are a ton on the store, im sure one or more would meet your needs - http://store.dotnetnuke.com/home/prod...

Thanks. That was helpful. I think I found one in the store that may be good. If not, I'll wait for DNN 6.2 because that feature sounded ideal.

there are a few "private messaging" modules like that-i believe ventrian do one, but the core messaging module (and the new one in 6.2.0) both send emails
