I've modified my mimetypes in IIS for .mp4 to be served as mimetype=video/mp4, but the media module is rendering the html as mimetype=video/quicktime.  Is this hardcoded, or am I missing a setting somewhere?  I'd prefer not to force the use of quicktime on my site, when this file type can be viewed with Media Player.

The files allways opened with your default application for the file extension.  Open the settings of an local mp4 file and change the default application to the Windows Media player.  (This will open the application with Windows Media Player).  On FireFox and other browsers you need a player plugin.

I couldn't have said it any better myself.  :)

Thanks for the replies Will and Matthias.

I do have my local settings to run .mp4 with Microsoft media player.

If I doubleclick on the file on my local machine, media player runs the file.

However, the module server-side is rendering this code, which is forcing me to run quicktime, which is not even loaded on my server or client machine:

<!-- Start_Module_400 -->

<div id="dnn_ctr400_ModuleContent" class="DNNModuleContent ModDNNMediaC">

 <div class="dnnMedia-Wrapper"><div id="div_quicktime_400" class="dnnmedia_wrapper dnnmedia_wmp"><object id="quicktime_400" classid="clsid:02BF25D5-8C17-4B23-BC80-D3488ABDDC6B" codebase="http://www.apple.com/qtactivex/qtplugin.cab"><param name="src" value="/LinkClick.aspx?link=videos%2fgst_navigation_710.mp4&tabid=85&mid=400" /><param name="controller" value="true" /><param name="autoplay" value="False" /><param name="loop" value="False" /><!--[if !IE]> <--><object data="/LinkClick.aspx?link=videos%2fgst_navigation_710.mp4&tabid=85&mid=400" type="video/quicktime"><param name="controller" value="true" /><param name="autoplay" value="False" /><param name="loop" value="False" /></object><!--> <![endif]--></object></div></div>

I am not aware of your installs on your local system, but I think you have to check the browsers plugin, deactivate Quick Time plugin, make sure you have the Media Player Plugin installed and activated.

It is different how to set this on the different Browsers, so I could not tell you the details on your Browser.

Cleanup your browser cache, Temp files and Cookies.

Perhaps it is also posible to setup the Quick Time player, so you could disable, the use for file types.  Same for the Media Player to set the Media Player as the deafault Player as your favorite Player for those file types.
