Trying to install DNN  on a Windows XP system. I extracted the files into a directory:

c:\inetpub\wwwroot\DNN

and created the application in the IIS Manager (Clicked Create next to the application name). I had to add the ASPNET user with write access to pass the permission check. All went well, setting up the SQLEXPRESS database. I then got the page to create the super user.

I entered my info and clicked Next. The system processed for a minute or two, then just went to a page with an error:

Server Error in '/DNN' Application.

Configuration Error

Now it's dead. Trying to go to my site - http://localhost/dnn - I see a page with an error:

Domain Name Does Not Exist In The Database

DotNetNuke supports multiple portals from a single database/codebase. It accomplishes this by converting the URL of the client browser Request to a valid PortalID in the Portals database table. The following steps describe the process:

Any help?

Thanks.

Hi Tabitha,

It sounds like your ASP.NET might be out of date on your machine if it is not recognizing certain attributes. Double check to make sure you have the latest framework and service packs installed on your machine before you try running it again. After this, verify if you are able to run the installer again. You will not be able to access the site and will continue to get the 'Domain Name' error until you are able to run the installer and get a portal set up in the database.

Sorry for the delay in replying...

My system is completely up to date, with all service packs, and including .NET versions up to 4.0. The problem was, in following the directions that are online and came with DNN 6.1.5... it, by default, creates the site configured for DNN 2.0 - even though the site itself is actually built for .NET 3.5 or later! The instructions are, shall we say, less than helpful, incomplete and wrong. They do not seem to have been updated for the latest version of DNN.

In a nutshell, I had to, in IIS, configure the site for .NET 4.0 to allow it to work.

Thanks.
