I am about to start building my first DNN site.

It should not really need to be live and public before sometime in June 2012, but as a beginner I thought I ask what would be the best to use for starting to build it up - 6.2 beta or 6.1.5? As soon as 6.2 it available I will of course upgrade. The thing is that I have never done an upgrade of a DNN site, so which one of the 2 above options would be most bulletproof to work when upgrading to stable 6.2? Or will both work just as fine, so it wouldn't matter if I build it on 6.2 beta or 6.1.5 if the goal is to anyway upgrade to 6.2 in beginning of June, before I go public with the site?

Regards
Arctica

you should start with DNN 6.1.5, because beta software is for testing only and does not necessarily support upgrades to the final version. Upgrading 6.1.5 should not be a real problem, essentially it is just copying over the new files into your existing web site (after performing a backup of all files and the database.

 Thanks Sebastian,

I will start having fun with 6.1.5 then, and then having even more fun with 6.2 in June :-)

Just make sure you have a local installation of 6.1.5 and walk through the upgrade process to become familiar with it. Once your comfortable with it, get a complete back-up of your current website and upgrade. The back-up is just in case something happens that you cannot correct.

As cool as 6.2 looks to be, I would wait till it officially comes out. This way you familiarize yourself with the basics of DNN. Once it comes out you can upgrade, which is a pretty easy process. And if you ever need help along the way, these forums are a great place to turn to.
