Thanks, Sebastian and Matthias.

Well, I found that we had created a custom module for a contact form and it's actually named MailForm.  The list of installed modules on the DNN GUI doesn't show the module code name, so it wasn't apparent unless one went to the \App_Code or \Desktop Module folder on the Web site and take a look around.

Something adding to the confusion is that one would expect an "error Installing Package File MailForm_01.00.00_Install" (or any other package) on the upgrade log only for modules being updated by the DNN upgrade routine. So, this error is a bit misleading.

Why would the DNN upgrade process signal an error on updating a module not provided and not being able to be updated by DNN?

Is it that the upgrade proc checks if 3rd party modules can run correctly under the upgraded version of DNN?
(I haven't properly tested our form since we need to change the SMTP server as we have changed providers. Our hosting provider has different SMTP servers for apps running on the host than those running remotely, so I have to ensure we have the right settings. I'll report back on that.)

Perhaps the Upgrade proc needs to alter all module packages, even if 3rd party?

Thanks for the info.

Hi Ivan,

there are significant changes into the DNN core code on DNN 5 and 6 releases.  DotNetNuke had blog about this to make sure vendors check thier modules and done any upgrades if it is needed.  Also there where noticed that any Modules that where under DNN Community Teams have to upgraded before a upgrade of the core where to done.

Some of the settings have to be changed, and if the module code is not correct the settings could not be set and the upgrade failes.  DNN had no control over 3rd party modules and could then not helped there.

Using newer versions of any module could be very importend to security issues and compatiblity.  Personaly I check all my modules if they still worked on the betas, so that I could start early for a version updgrade.

Hello Matthias,

I was just now looking for documentation about specific changes needed for older modules (running on 4.0 or 5.0) to run under 6.2.  I couldn't find anything that specific other than the WIKI article on module development.

You mentioned DNN has blogged about the changes, but the Blog directory shows the names of the Bloggers not topics, so I couldn't find anything there.  Searching the site didn't find something specific.  I'll keep looking.  However, if you have a link or article title about the changes needed for modules to run on 6.2 I'll appreciate it.

Thanks.

I would check it on the source code of the module on a DNN 6.2 develope environment, if you are not the developer I would contact the vendor.

I know that some methodes that was using on older modules had to be updatet on later DNN methodes, but I am more an administrator and tester as an deveolper, so my knowledge is very restricted to this. I realy think if you have the source on a debugging the module on a newer environment you would found the issue.
