Hello all,

I know of the hype and talk going around about a merging of the Active Forums/Active Social modules and integrating them so that they can take advantage of the social features of DNN 6.2.  I remember that prior to Active Modules being taken by DNN Corp, there was a product called the Mail Connector, used for the allowance of posting and receiving forum posts via email; a very nice feature to a modern social network/community, in my opinion.  What is the scoop with that?  Did it just sort of disappear?  Or are there plans for it's integration into the new and enhanced forum?  I'm up for having it integrated.  Keep us updated.  Thanks.

AFAIK there are licensing issues with this feature, which therefore might become part of DNN Pro/Enterprise.

Sebastian is correct. The Mail Connector functionality included a third-party component for managing the email connectivity. This is something that we would not be able to release as part of an open source project, which is why it was removed. We are considering similar functionality for one of our commercial products, but it has not been decided when or if this will actually happen.

That's interesting.  But another idea that you could possibly implement is to sell that particular product separately and not tie it to any of the particular DNN versions.  Now, out of curiosity, who's third-party component was it?  Microsoft's?  I ask because the protocols are open for Microsoft's technologies and free to use for open source projects, so I suppose if it didn't happen, then somebody could create one that's completely open.
