A customer, currently running on DNN v5.6.6 wants a forum on their website.  We demoed ActiveForums to them and they loved it, and now want to purchase it.  However, in that time it seems that ActiveForums is no longer available to download (I'm assuming since DNN 6.2 was released).

I've had nothing but bad experiences with the DNN Forum module from previous attempts at using it.  While some of my concerns have been resolved (like the hideous and unprofessional "metal" skin that was the only choice by default), some of my issues with the module still exist.  The fact that the your forums seemed to go down for 10 minutes while I was typing this message certainly didn't help things, either.

The primary issue I have is that, in my opinion, exposing a WYSIWYG editor gives users way too much visibility into DNN, and the multiline text editor isn't powerful enough due to lack of BBCode support (ironically enough, I noticed some portions of the module itself attempt to use BBCode- the [quote] tag in particular).

Is an older version of ActiveForums still available to purchase somewhere?

Alternatively, what options do I have for locking down the forum module's editor so the user cannot use the Telerik image/document manager without removing the same functionality from the Admins to edit other content on the site?

Unfortunately, upgrading DNN to 6.x is not an option.

Well, it is obscure what is happening with AF as part of 6.2.

6.2.1 will be out in a week or two and still no news about AF.

I would suggest to wait for a while and in September move to something else (as a forum module i mean, like YAF module). This is what i will do.

AF is supposed to move to open source. Currently the only open source download for AF is the 5.0 beta. I would not recommend using this for production:

I would encourage you to post on activemodules.com as well.

DNN Corp has not been terribly clear about the road map & ETA for the next release of Active Forums, which is unfortunate since so many people have the module installed in live sites.

AFAIK DNN Corp. is working to release a new Active Forum version compatible with DNN 6.2 and migration scripts for previous versions of AF and core forum.
