Hans,

sorry, my fault. The Newsletter module is an admin module and so it is not available for download and install on it's own afaik.

Did you check the SMTP settings under Host :: Host Settings? This I would suggest before doing anything else. If they work OK, then you can try the following:

First check the Newsletters module version on your server (under Host :: Extensions). Most propably, it's 1.0.0 (I have a local install of DNN 5.6.3, there it is this version).

Have a look at the folder /DesktopModules/Admin/Newsletters. There are not too much files: Newsletter.ascx and Newsletter.ascx.vb, and at least one file in the App_LocalResources folder called Newsletter.ascx.resx (there may be others depending on the language pack(s) you installed, eg Newsletters.ascx.de-AT.resx etc.)

Install the same DNN version as on your server to your local machine or a testing environment, check the version of the Newsletter module - it should be the same as on your server.

If it is the same version, copy the folder /DesktopModules/Admin/Newsletters to a safe place, and overwrite it with the folder from your local installation, or add the missing files respectively.

Good luck!
Michael

If you just deleted the newsletter page in admin menu, use recycle bin to restore page and module. if you uninstalled Newsletter module, this will not touch any files but remove registration. You need a working installation of same dnn version and create a package in Host > Extensions from it. This package will not contain files, but all required metadata. Use extension install wizard in Host > Extensions to install the module package on the target site.

Sebastian,

as far as I read it, Hans did not uninstall the module or delete it from the page, but his hosting provider has removed some "unnecessary" or "potentially dangerous" files, and since that, the Newsletter module is not working anymore.

Best wishes
Michael

This is the history:

Google advised that my site had been infested and posted a notice to all users whenever they accessed the site that there was potential danger.

DNN provider (Parrals Business Automation) checked and removed something. They did not tell me what. Subsequently, or perhaps even before Google issued their warning, Newsletters fail to work with an exception logged for any user who is not an administrator. Message says that email address is not recognized.

I checked and verified that SMTP passwords are all correct by resetting them in both the host settings as well as with the provider.

Provider has just now set up site to use their mail relay. Although more extensive testing remains to be done, things seem to work now.

if newsletter module shows up but fails upon send action, there are most likely no module files missing. please check EventViewer in Admin menu and post details of this issue.
