I’ve been using SharePoint for almost 10 years and have enjoyed the ability to add and modify webparts pretty easily.  I’m researching DNN as analternative and things that I find very simple in SharePoint don’t seem as easily apparent.  What I’m trying to do, at the moment, is to create a contacts list with some custom fields for my family.  Example:

First Name
Last Name
Full Name (i.e. calculatedfield=First Name + Last Name)
Address
Phone number
Birthday
Anniversary Date
Relationship (Mother, Father,Brother Son, etc. etc.)
Link to “Full Name” – I use this to build relationships between the records

In SharePoint I can use either the built in “contacts” or “event” lists and add the additional fields I’d like.  I haven’t found a module yet that supports this…  I’d appreciate any suggestions around this question and in general, how to create custom lists inDNN.

Thanks, Ed.

PS - I'm using the newest version of DNN, installed on Windows Server 2008 and SQL Express 2008 R2

I think you could use the FnL module you could get free from the extenssion forge page or on codeplex.

This module is very flexible and you could create there your contacts and style it.

Also you can use the social features eg. friends list using the user profiles.
