Crispy, just to clarify... Are you saying that when we install the next version of the forum module it will automatically uninstall/delete the blog module, or are we still going to have to uninstall the blog module manually? If we have to uninstall the blog manually, will it leave the forum alone after the upgrade since right now if you uninstall the blog, the forum is gone as well.

Also, are you guys thinking about releasing a beta so those of us with busier forums than this one can test it?

Thanks. I can't wait to get my hands on the new version.

There will be no 'beta' release before the release.  If you are seriously running a forum that is busier than this one on one of the core releases I am shocked.  Several reason for this.  One is that there are many forum most of you don't see on here, the core one being exterely active.  Two, the majority of bugs in the released versions are only uncovered in a hi volume enviroment and i have heard no one mention 75% of the bug we have uncovered here.  Lastly, the performance of this module was not so good until the release you see posted here.

I have been working on the IUpgradeable to clear out all the blog items.  THis means you will not have an option to uninstall.the blog, it will just be done for you.  The reasoning behind this is we don't want users dropping their forums data unknowingly.  The current core unintall process cannot differentiate between the modules, it will just see one uninstall file and runs the script.

Well we have run into every performance and non-performance related problem listed in Gemini - paging problems, datatype size problems, email and subscription problems, high memory usage problems, the entire forum intemittently disappearing for non-admin users, forum stats problems, What's New problems, and much more. We're basically on the verge of the useable limits of this module in it's present form. I've had to move the site off to it's own dedicated P2.4 server, and recycle the app pool every 4 hours just to keep things afloat.

So far, the stuff I've been hearing about the next release is very encouraging, which is the only reason we're still able to justify using this module to our users. Thankfully my users are loyal, and since I just moved them from another forum, they're prepared to stick it out for a while to avoid yet another move to another forum application. I'm crossing my fingers and getting the conversion scripts ready though, just in case
